I chose the Disney movie "Tangled" as one of my movies for this assignment. Tangled is a story about a young girl, Rapunzel, who has been locked in in a tower for almost her whole life. She decides to leave the tower later due to Flynn Ryder entering it when he is running away from the palace guards.
Since it's a Disney movie it has some stereotypical characters but most of them are unique. Rapunzel is a young girl who is not the classical damsell in distress. She easily knocks out a stranger with a frying pan and even though she has never been outside her tower, she enjoys the adventure when she finally leaves the tower.
The male main character, Eugene Fitzherbert (or Flynn Rider as he used to call himself since he didn't like his own name), on the other hand, fits into a certain category. He acts like a bad guy, a thief, but in the end he turns into a hero. Rapunzel steals a tiara which Eugene has stolen and promises to give it back to him if he takes her to the capital to see the floating lights. In the beginning Eugene simply plans to desert her in a tavern full of thugs, but as things progress they are stuck with each other for a while longer. In the end Eugene saves Rapunzel by sacrifacing himself, so he turns out to be a good guy in the end.
Both genders are presented as equal in the movie, and they save each other multiple times. I don't really think that movies tell us about what is means to be male or female, and more like show us how people with different personalities and ways of life react in different situations.
